Bodog, which is perhaps the best known name in online gambling, especially in the US, has decided to withdraw from the US market in late 2011. Bodog is popular in the United States, and this decision is another negative for U.S. players and sports betting online.
Bodog has announced it will leave the US market on December 31, 2011, after which no US players will be accepted or allowed access to play or place any bets. This step is aimed at bringing the Bodog group into line with other online gambling companies that have also left the US market.
According to some sources, the decision to exit the US market was the result of Bodog recently obtaining a license from the Gambling Commission of the United Kingdom, and one requirement is that Bodog must comply with new laws established by the Commission.
In a statement posted on the website of Bodog’s founder, Calvin Ayre, the company made it clear that they want to ensure that the expansion of the Bodog brand is not affected by any negative publicity, especially in markets where the brand is showing great success, and the decision to withdraw from the U.S. market later this year was seen as a logical step in the right direction.
There is also a strong belief that the decision for Bodog leaving the US is to put the company in a better position to re-enter the market in the future when US law makers change the current laws governing online gambling. Current speculation is that the changes in legislation may occur before the end of this year.
Many conservatives who opposed the US legalizing online gambling have begun to change their stance recently, and this change is being viewed as a positive step towards changing the current laws.
